Rain, rain...

Thursday, December 30, 2010

I’m continuing to enjoy my last little bit of vacation here in Trinidad, Bolivia. I’m excited to welcome the New Year here and relishing in the knowledge that it’s not time to go back to work quite yet.

I woke up in the middle of the night last night to the sound of rain. I love sleeping in the rain, so I was perfectly content to listen to it hitting the roof until I fell back asleep. But when I got up this morning it still hadn’t stopped raining and I opened the door to this:

1

The patio was completely flooded and Mauricio’s grandma’s chickens had perched themselves on the little ledge in the doorway.

The duck, on the other hand, was thoroughly enjoying the flood.

2

I couldn’t help but laugh watching it swimming around what’s usually the patio!

We ultimately decided to make the best of it and take photos of each other standing in the water!

Such is the rainy season in Trinidad, Bolivia. Fortunately, flooding hasn’t been too bad this year. A few years back the flooding was horrendous and led to loss of housing, livelihoods, and even lives. I’m grateful that this year and last have been less tragic.

Merry Christmas!

Wednesday, December 22, 2010

I'm fairly certain that this blog has officially taken a Christmas break!

I'm very excited to have some time off work and am heading to Trinidad - my favorite city in Bolivia (and in the world!) - for Christmas and New Year's. I'll be popping in with the Macro Friday posts and maybe some photographs here and there, but aside from that you probably won't be hearing too much from me until January!

I hope you all have a very blessed Christmas and New Year!

I’ve gone back and forth on whether to post Macro Friday for the next two Fridays (Christmas Eve & New Year’s Eve). I decided to go ahead and post them but expect a lower turnout. That way any that still wants to participate will have the option. But to anyone that’ll just be too busy with the Holidays, we’ll look forward to seeing you back in a few weeks! :)

Okay, now it's your turn!

Before posting my shot, I need to apologize for my absence from the blog world. I feel like lately I’m just dashing in and out to post Macro Friday. The truth is, I’m currently working three separate jobs, one of which is my normal, full-time job. This leaves me short on time and I just haven’t been able to comment as much as usual or respond to your lovely comments. But I miss it and truly hope that with the New Year comes a more relaxed schedule!

That said, I’m kind of excited about my shot for today. I love Christmas. To me, Christmas is just magical. And I’ve been kind of missing the snow and Christmas decorations from the States, so I brought some Christmas cheer to my new balcony! :)

The doorknob leading to the balcony is very intricate and antique looking – love it! And the new paint color in the background was an extra bonus. :)

Okay, now it's your turn!
